WATERTOWN, NY (July 17, 2023) – As NASA prepares to send astronauts to the moon again for the first time in over half a century, WPBS recalls the July 20th Anniversary of the first lunar landing with special programming on Sunday, July 23rd, 2023 – including two documentaries that explore the NASA Space Program and the work behind bringing humanity into space.

8 Days to the Moon and Back (Sunday, July 23 at 12:30 pm) Join Apollo 11 on its historic journey. The film seamlessly blends mission audio featuring conversations among Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins with new footage, NASA archive and stunning CGI to recreate the first moon landing.

When We Were Shuttle (Sunday, July 23 at 2:00 pm) A two-hour documentary exploring what NASA’s space shuttle program meant to six exceptional men and women who worked behind the scenes to make it fly. Through their recollections and personal archives, the film examines some of the program’s highs and its darkest hours. It also offers a unique, grassroots look at how the shuttle impacted life in the Sunshine State, from the thriving aerospace and tourism industry it sustained, to the decision to retire the shuttle when the program ended in 2011.

SPECIAL CHILDREN’S PROGRAM
Ready Jet Go! Space Camp (Sunday, July 23 at 8:30 am) When Sunspot develops an allergic reaction, Jet must leave Space Camp in order to find a cure.
