WPBS-TV Premieres Four Additional Canadian Series in January 2024

WATERTOWN, NY (December 22, 2023) – At WPBS, being a cross-border “two nation station” is central to our identity and mission. For over half a century, from our base in upstate New York, WPBS has served viewers in Eastern Ontario and the National Capital Region with the finest documentaries, drama series, children’s programming, lifestyle content, music and arts performances, and news & information programming.

Over 70% of WPBS members are Canadian – the highest percentage of any PBS station – as are many of the stations’ corporate sponsors and partners.

Canadians serve in key leadership roles at WPBS – many of the members of the Board of Trustees and Community Advisory Board are Canadian, and WPBS is the only PBS border station to have a Canadian as its President & General Manager.

WPBS broadcasts more Canadian programming than any other PBS station, and in January is adding four Canadian series that have not appeared on WPBS before – season 4 of travel series Seeing Canada (Wednesdays at 7:30 pm), interview series Canada Files on Mondays at 7:30pm, Red Green season 2 (Saturdays at 7:30 pm), and the most watched Canadian comedy series ever – Corner Gas season 1 (Saturdays at 7:00 pm). Also World’s Greatest Cruises is returning for a repeat of season 1 (Thursdays at 7:30 pm) in advance of the new season 2 coming in March. “WPBS strives to bring great Canadian shows to our cross-border audience, and also distributes a growing number of Canadian-produced series to other PBS stations” said President and General Manager Mark Prasuhn. “It’s one of the many ways we are fulfilling and building on our organizational mission.”
