A registered nurse, Donna Price has worked to help patients recover throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. But as a single parent, Price told the PBS NewsHour she has had to balance that demanding work with caring for her son, who has autism, and her mother, who suffered a stroke. At one point, she had to take eight weeks of unpaid leave to care for her son, and she felt she had to “rob Peter to pay Paul,” struggling financially and emotionally to make ends meet.
Price said that as a nurse, she may be considered a hero, but she’s not treated as one, and that millions of women in the U.S. go out every day to make sure others are OK, while no one is considering their well-being.
