The end goal of critical race theory is not to eliminate the construct of race altogether, said University of California, Berkeley professor Prudence Carter, but rather to “get rid of racism.” She said the framework focuses on the forces that create massive disparities in the U.S., whether in the economy, housing, or the criminal justice system, and seeks to answer why these disparities are so racialized. “Critical theory doesn’t want that to be the case,” Carter said. Carter joined PBS NewsHour’s Amna Nawaz on Tuesday, June 29 to answer viewers’ questions on critical race theory.
