WATCH: Pence rebukesTrump, ‘crackpotlawyers’ over Jan. 6

Former Vice President Mike Pence said Donald Trump should not be up for the White House again, given his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Pence was responding to questions from the media during a news briefing on Wednesday — a day after the DOJ announced an indictment based on the Jan. 6 investigation.

Pence recounted how Trump had asked him to reject electoral votes from states that had narrowly voted for President Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Pence said he refused this argument as unconstitutional, but despite this, Trump has continued to claim his former vice president had the power to overturn the election results. Pence said these efforts were disqualifying for someone to be president of the United States.

“Anyone who puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States. And anyone who asks someone else to put themselves over the Constitution should be president of the United States again,” Pence said.

Pence said Trump had been convinced he could change the result of the election by a group of “crackpot lawyers.”

“Sadly, the president was surrounded by a group of crackpot lawyers who kept telling him what his itching ears wanted to hear,” Pence said.
