WATCH: Pence ‘did the right thing that day,’ Rep. Aguilar says | Jan. 6 hearings

Warning: This hearing may include footage of violence and strong language.
Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., spoke on June 16 as the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack presented its findings to the public.
Aguilar said former Vice President Mike Pence “withstood an onslaught of pressure” from former President Donald Trump to reject Congress’ official count of Electoral College votes on the day of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, adding that Pence told the president he had no authority to do so.
“Let me be clear,” Aguilar said, “Vice President Pence did the right thing that day. He stayed true to this oath to protect and defend the constitution.”
In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day. The committee postponed a hearing scheduled for June 15 that was meant to focus on Trump’s efforts to replace Attorney General Bill Barr, who did not support his claims of voter fraud after the election.
