WATCH: Ignoring violent insurrection would invite future presidents to abuse power, Neguse argues

Warning: Some video shown during the trial contains graphic images of violence and profanity.

Rep. Jon Neguse, D-Colo., spoke Tuesday in a hearing about the constitutionality of former President Donald Trump’s second Senate impeachment trial, which has been questioned by many Republicans. However, Democrats are arguing to proceed.

“President Trump was not impeached for run-of-the-mill corruption, misconduct. He was impeached for inciting a violent insurrection. An insurrection where people died in this building. An insurrection that desecrated our seat of government,” he said.

Neguse said that if Trump is not convicted, it would invite future presidents to use their power without fear of accountability.
