WATCH: How climate changeis making fall foliage less colorful

The autumn equinox this Saturday will mark the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. For some, though, the real start of fall is when the leaves change color.

Bill Keeton, a professor of forest ecology at the University of Vermont, says extreme drought and rainfall is leading to less colorful foliage.

“These types of climate extremes create stresses in trees, which can interfere with the production of some of these chemicals that give us color, and can interfere with the overall productivity and health of trees,” Keeton told PBS News Weekend’s John Yang.
