Sam Bindi fled the Firestone rubber plantation during Liberia’s civil war, but he still has fond memories of his boyhood home. He started working with Firestone tappers around the age of six, and remembers walking two hours to get to his Firestone school — a fact he reminds his own young children, who live with him in Staten Island.
