PBS News Weekly: The Israel-Hamas War

As the two-month mark of the war between Israel and Hamas passes, PBS News Weekly takes a look at where the conflict stands.

The United Nations General Assembly this week overwhelmingly approved a measure calling for a humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza. But the U.S. was one of 10 nations to vote against the nonbinding resolution.

President Joe Biden spoke at a closed-door fundraiser this week and said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs to change his hard-line government, adding that Israel is losing global support due to what the president called Israel’s “indiscriminate bombing” in Gaza.

Israel says it has launched more than 22,000 military strikes on Gaza since Oct. 7. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, more than 18,500 people have been killed in the strikes.
