The fighting in Gaza passed the four month mark this week and President Joe Biden shared his strongest public condemnation of Israel’s response yet, calling it “over the top.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken completed his fifth tour of the Middle East since the October 7 attacks — an attempt to broker diplomatic solutions. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a deal that could have resulted in a pause of fighting and release of Israeli hostages by Hamas, saying he was planning to fight until “total victory.”

Elsewhere in the region, the U.S. struck what it said where Iran-backed targets in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for a drone strike that killed three Americans in Jordan. The action has sparked fears of a larger, regional war in the Middle East..
