AMERICAN EXPERIENCE presents a virtual conversation on the evolution of the American militia movement, from the events at Ruby Ridge to today. This discussion is inspired, in part, by the PBS rebroadcast of the documentary film Ruby Ridge on April 13, 2021. The conversation will examine the events of the ill-fated 1992 standoff between the Weaver family and federal agents in northern Idaho, and the subsequent rise of the far right militia movement over the next 30 years, up through and including the Capitol Hill siege this past January.
Featured guests include:
Barak Goodman: writer, producer and director of Ruby Ridge
Jess Walter: author of nine books, including Ruby Ridge: The Truth and Tragedy of the Randy Weaver Family
The conversation will be moderated by Adriane Lentz-Smith—an associate professor of history at Duke University.
