President Joe Biden outlined a $5 billion plan to end hepatitis C by 2030 through expanded access to testing, treatment and prevention resources in his proposed budget to Congress this year. This bloodborne viral infection has settled into the livers of more than 2.4 million Americans and slowly kills tens of thousands each year, despite an existing cure. PBS NewsHour Health Reporter Laura Santhanam speaks with Digital Anchor Nicole Ellis about how stigma creates barriers to treatment and how Biden’s plan could help — if Congress agrees.
