WPBS-TV RECEIVES THREE VIDEOGRAPHER AWARDS

WPBS-TV, Watertown, NY – was recognized with the Award of Excellence in the Television Documentary category for Exploring the 1000 Islands, a new sixty-minute high definition heritage documentary. This sixty-minute documentary covers the beauty and wonder of the 1000 Islands, from its earliest explorers and settlers to present day. This production is a result of the work undertaken in WPBS-DT’s four avenues of service:  Education, Economic Development, Travel & Tourism and Arts & Culture. A special thank you to the following organizations for their assistance in the making of Exploring the 1000 Islands:  Boldt Castle, the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority, the Thousand Islands International Tourism Council, the Thousand Islands Museum, Alan and Marilyn Hutchinson with the Les Corbin Collection, the Town of Alexandria, and Uncle Sam Boat Tours.  This documentary is available to view at watch.wpbstv.org or available for purchase as a DVD/Book Combo at wpbstv.org/shop.

WPBS-TV also received an Award of Distinction for The Great Cable Carry documentary in the Television Documentary category.   The Great Cable Carry is a 30-minute documentary highlighting the crucial role that North Country residents played in defeating the British military during the War of 1812.  In June of 2014, North Country residents re-enacted the Great Cable Carry along the same twenty-mile route that their ancestors took two hundred years ago. This documentary is sponsored in part by the Daisy Marquis Jones Foundation and is available to view at watch.wpbstv.org or available for purchase at wpbstv.org/shop.

The Daniel Tiger’s Neighbor Days promo received a second Award of Distinction in the Creative Editing category.  Daniel Tiger’s Be A Good Neighbor campaign teaches children to “be a good neighbor” by fostering kindness and encourages families and children to do a good deed and pass it on. About The Videographer Awards

Videographer recognizes outstanding achievement by talented individuals and companies in the video production field. Entrants include video production companies, advertising and public relations firms, corporate communication departments, cable and broadcast television operations, government agencies and schools, independent producers and wedding and special event producers. Past winners have come from all 50 states and numerous countries.

There were about 1,300 entries from throughout the United States, Canada and several other countries in the 2015 competition. Entrants included audio, video and film production companies; advertising agencies; PR firms;corporate and government communication departments; and independent creative professionals such as producers, directors, editors and shooters. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. About 13% of the entries won the Award of Excellence, the organization’s top honor. About 14% were Award of Distinction winners.
