WPBS-TV PREMIERES NEW MARITIME DOCUMENTARY

Watertown, NY – WPBS-TV is pleased to announce the premiere of New York’s Seaway Lighthouses on Tuesday, August 27 at 8pm. The 90-minute documentary visits 23 of the historic and unique lighthouses along New York’s Seaway Trail, telling the stories behind when and why these lighthouses were built and the people who spent their lives keeping the lights burning.

Among the fascinating highlights: the lighthouse destroyed by a collision with a ship, the lighthouse tended by a former pirate, the tragic sinking of the St. Peter, the first lighthouse in the world to run on natural gas, and much more.

New York’s Seaway Lighthouses, filmed by WPBS-TV Producer and Executive Director of Production Tracy DuFlo, will rebroadcast on Saturday, August 31 at 4:30pm and Sunday, September 1 at 12pm.

New York’s Seaway Lighthouses was made possible through a grant from the National Maritime Heritage Foundation. In 2018, the United States Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) partnered with the National Park Service to award grants for projects that teach about and preserve sites and objects related to our nation’s maritime history. WPBS-TV was one of the six recipients awarded from New York State and one of the thirty-four recipients awarded overall.

WPBS-TV will be hosting an event this summer, free to the public, which will include a screener of New York’s Seaway Lighthouses. More details will be published as they are finalized.
