WPBS-TV Marks Yom HaShoah with Special Programming in April 2023

WATERTOWN, NY (April 3, 2023) – Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), which begins at sundown on Monday, April 17, is an important opportunity to stop to reflect on the Holocaust and the impact of anti-Semitism. To mark this somber occasion, WPBS presents a selection of special programming in April. 

Sunday, April 16th
Great Performances: Remember This (12 noon) Experience Academy Award nominee David Strathairn as reluctant World War II hero and Holocaust witness, Jan Karski, in this one-man true story of moral courage and individual responsibility.

I Danced for the Angel of Death – The Dr. Edith Eva Eger Story (2:00 pm) Edie recounts her remarkable story of survival as a prisoner at Auschwitz and her struggles with survivor’s guilt.

The Lesson (3:00 pm) At age 14, every child attending school in Germany is brought face to face with the nation’s past, confronting the reality of the Holocaust for the very first time. 

Murals of the Holocaust (4:00 pm) For 20 years, students enrolled in Western Kentucky University’s VAMPY program, a summer camp for Verbally and Mathematically Precocious Youth, have designed and created murals about the Holocaust. 

Tuesday, April 18th
How Saba Kept Singing (10:00 pm) 94-year-old David “Saba” Wisnia survived Auschwitz by entertaining his Nazi captors with his beautiful singing voice. When his grandson Avi begins to ask questions, they realize that there is more to the story.
