WPBS to Distribute Free Summer Camp Resources to Local Organizations

WATERTOWN, NY (June 6, 2023); WPBS is pleased to distribute free resources to 8 local organizations from PBS Learning Media that will support “rainy day” activities during this year’s summer camp sessions. The list of resources includes some of WPBS’s most popular animated programming that has been adapted into learning media for use anywhere there is an internet connection. These resources, along with the thousands of others contained within the PBS Learning Media platform are FREE for use anywhere. All learning media in the Rainy Day Programming resource list is aligned to the NYS Learning Standards.

COMPONENTS INCLUDE:

CAMP-TV A Day Camp experience where “campers” learn through play. This collection includes 15 videos and activities for grades K – 5.

Molly of Denali Set in rural Alaska, Molly, her friends, and family model the many ways that children can create informational text in their daily lives. This collection includes 20 videos, 14 lesson plans, 5 interactives, and resources in Spanish for grades K – 2.

Explore the Outdoors Nurture children’s curiosity about the natural world and inspire outdoor fun with topics like bugs, nature, recycling, and the Earth as you explore the outdoors together. This collection includes 33 videos, 4 interactives, 1 interactive lesson, 3 lesson plans, and resources in Spanish for grades K – 8. 

Curious George This collection will help young children understand STEM concepts such as measuring, building, and simple machines using hands-on investigations that inspire exploration of the world. This collection includes 14 videos and lesson plans for grades PreK – 5.

Nature Lab Created by The Nature Conservancy to help children understand the science behind how nature works for us and how we can keep it running strong by investigating topics such as biodiversity, climate change, oceans, and healthy cities. This collection includes 41 videos, 10 interactives, 1 lesson plan, and resources in Spanish for grades 3 – 12.

Human Impact on the Environment A collection of resources that shows the real-world effects of human actions on the environment with additional resources the directly explain the science behind climate change. This collection includes 41 videos, 10 interactives, 1 lesson plan, and resources in Spanish for grades PreK – 12.

Nature Cat “Backyard Explorer Extraordinaire,” Nature Cat has children join him and his crew as they explore the outdoors using story segments, interactives, and readers. This collection includes 46 videos, 25 documents, 2 interactives, and resources in Spanish for grades PreK – 12.

Wild Kratts Join Chris and Martin Kratt as they travel to animal habitats around the globe where they combine science with fun and adventure to showcase rarely seen wildlife moments. This collection includes 229 videos, 7 interactives, 12 documents, 1 lesson plan, and resources in Spanish for grades PreK – 5.

The local organizations offering these “Rainy Day” resources during their 2023 Summer Camp sessions include: STARbase Academy, School Aged Children’ s Facility, Cornell Cooperative Extension, North Country Library System, 4H Camp Wabasso, Camp Unirondack, Oswegatchie Education, and Minna Anthony Nature Center.
