WPBS readies for Ready Set Fun Bookfest 2012

WPBS-DT, Watertown Public Broadcasting, is gearing up for its largest literacy children’s event of the year, Ready Set Fun! Bookfest 2012.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 11 am until 2 pm at our new venue, the Watertown High School Gymnasium. This event is designated a Yellow Ribbon Event and is free to the public. However, the donation of a canned good item is encouraged to benefit the Urban Mission food pantry.

Ready Set Fun! Bookfest 2012 is celebrating 16 years of literacy fun. This event is designed for parents and children to enjoy a day of interactive, educational and entertaining activities. We will have over 30 vendors this year. Here are a few who will be joining us: Flower Memorial Library, Sci-Tech Center of NNY, Watertown Police Department, Adirondack Kids, Jefferson County Sheriff Department K9 Unit, Watertown Daily Times, NYS Zoo at Thompson Park, Literacy of Northern New York, and Disabled Person Action Organization. The event also features several local area authors of children’s books including Hope Marston and Irene Uttendorfsky.

New exhibitors this year include the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center, Girl Scouts of NYPENN and Fort Drum Child, Youth and School Service plus several more. We will have the 2 for 1 Scholastic Book Sale, the gently used book swap, where children “give a book, take a book” and as always every child receives a FREE book (while supplies last).

Join Clifford the Big Red Dog and Curious George for a delightful day as WPBS hosts a celebration of learning at the Ready Set Fun! Bookfest 2012. Visit us on-line at wpbstv.org for a complete listing of the vendors. Ready Set Fun! Bookfest 2012 is sponsored in part by the generous support of AMP Entertainment.

WPBS-DT is a not-for-profit public television station serving approximately 650,000 households throughout Northern New York and Eastern Ontario. WPBS-DT’s mission is to educate, entertain and inform in order to enhance the lives of those it serves.
