WPBS Presents Full Day of Special Easter Programming Celebrating Easter

WATERTOWN, NY (April 14, 2022) –

Easter is the most important Christian festival, and the one celebrated with the greatest joy. This Easter Sunday, April 17th, WPBS is pleased to present an all-day lineup of special programming celebrating Easter and heralding the rebirth and renewal associated with this holiday and with the spring season. Special programs include:

Secrets of the Sacred Architecture (11:00 am) – For most of America’s history, sacred buildings represented our greatest feats of innovative engineering and artistic design. SECRETS OF SACRED ARCHITECTURE unlocks the elements of design that make these innovative structures so fascinating and unveils the meaning embedded in religious architecture.

Inside the Vatican (12:00 noon) – Filmed over a historic year, INSIDE THE VATICAN gives viewers unprecedented access to the inner workings of one of the most important places in the Christian world. From Pope Francis himself and some of the highest-ranking officials, to the choristers of the Sistine Chapel and the papal gardener, the film gives unique insight into the lives of those who live and work in this independent City State.

Jesus: Countdown to Calvary (2:00 pm) – In addition to a highly successful acting career, Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, Paddington) has a Cambridge University degree in theology. In this documentary he travels to Jerusalem to tell the story of the week that changed the world — the last six days of Jesus’ life.

Rick Steves: European Easter (3:00 pm) – Taking you on a spring journey through Spain, Slovenia, Italy and Greece, RICK STEVES EUROPEAN EASTER celebrates this 2,000-year-old story as expressed In a variety of cultures, bringing a new light to this timeless holiday.

Mary Berry: Easter Feasts (4:00 pm) – Mary shares her favorite Easter recipes and takes a look at how Christian communities all over the world celebrate Easter with special food.

Music and the Spoken Word: Easter (6:30 pm) “Easter Miracles”
