WPBS-DT HOSTS WHIZ QUIZ AWARDS CEREMONY

Watertown, NY – WPBS-DT was pleased to host the Whiz Quiz Awards Ceremony with Glenn Gough on Thursday, April 9, 2015.

The 2014 International Whiz Quiz Champions from South Jefferson Central High School were awarded a scholarship check in the amount of $1500 and gold cup trophy, while the second place Watertown High School team was awarded a $1000 scholarship check and silver trophy.  The teams were presented with scholarship money made possible in part by the United States Air Force and presented by US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Fernandez.  This year WPBS-DT added three special team awards that each included a $250 scholarship.  The winners of the “Best Dressed” award went to the Alexandria Central team,  “Most Likely to Succeed” was awarded to Canton High, and the “WPBS Pick” was awarded to Sackets Harbor High School.   Jefferson Community College President, Dr. Carol McCoy, presented these special team awards.

WPBS-DT was also pleased to congratulate the 2014 Canadian Whiz Quiz Champions, Bayridge Secondary School from Kingston, Ontario.  Bayridge Secondary School, with their Advisor Cindy Eccles, captured the winning title over the two Canadian teams that competed.

Whiz Quiz is produced locally by WPBS-DT and filming takes place annually in October and November.  It airs on WPBS-DT October through December.  WPBS-DT thanks all of our sponsors for making Whiz Quiz the longest running, local academic quiz production in the North Country.  Corporate support for Whiz Quiz is provided by United States Air Force, Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, Community Bank, Jefferson Community College, Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, SUNY North Country Consortium, Watertown Noon Rotary Club, Malone Rotary Club and the Theresa Rotary Club.
