WPBS-DT HOSTS WHIZ QUIZ AWARDS CEREMONY

WPBS-DT is pleased to host the Whiz Quiz Awards Ceremony with Glenn Gough on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Watertown ELKs Lodge #496. Following a complimentary dinner, WPBS-DT will be awarding scholarships and trophies to the first and second place American Whiz Quiz champions along with special team awards. The 2017 American Whiz Quiz Champions from Madrid-Waddington Central School with their advisor Michelle Bresett will be awarded a scholarship check in the amount of $1,500, while the second place team from Heuvelton Central School with their advisor Bruce Durant will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship check. The winners of the special team awards will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $250.00. Scholarships for the winning teams are provided in part by National Grid and Rotary Clubs in Watertown (Noon and Sunrise), Clayton, and Massena. WPBS-TV is pleased to have Keynote speaker Dr. Ty Stone, President, Jefferson Community College and a scholarship presentation by Northern New York Community Foundation. WPBS-TV will show a special video presentation featuring students from the winning American and Canadian teams.

WPBS-DT is also pleased to congratulate the 2017 Canadian Whiz Quiz Champions, Bayridge Secondary School from Kingston, Ontario with their advisor Cindy Eccles.  Along with the second place 2017 Canadian Whiz Quiz team was Sydenham High School, from Sydenham, Ontario with their advisor Simon Baron.

Whiz Quiz is produced locally by WPBS-DT and filming takes place annually in October and November.  It airs on WPBS-DT October through December.  WPBS-DT thanks all of our sponsors for making Whiz Quiz the longest running, local academic quiz production in the North Country.  Corporate support for Whiz Quiz is provided by Community Bank N.A., Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley (St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University, SUNY Canton, and SUNY Potsdam), and Jefferson Community College.
