WPBS-DT, Watertown Public Broadcasting, is pleased to report on the success of its latest high-definition, local production, The Raquette River Experience, and related screenings in St. Lawrence County.

A local, three-month on-air campaign on WPBS-DT was designed to create buzz, awareness and excitement with our two-nation audience regarding Raquette River attractions and events.

One of the most vital components of the campaign is WPBS-DT’s newest local production, The Raquette River Experience, a 30-minute high definition production that celebrates the diverse history, renewable energy, the community through the arts, communities along the river, and the traditional Adirondack/North Country Experience. Community screenings were conducted during the week of July 29 in Massena, Potsdam and Tupper Lake.

WPBS-DT drew a crowd of approximately 50 attendees at each location over the course of three screenings in St. Lawrence County. A Canton resident recently writes: “Watched the documentary on TV. What a great job. Congratulations to all who had a part in the production. Using local folks, I believe, made a big difference rather than actors. Don, I think you could convince anyone to come to the North Country. Keep up the good work.”

“Experience the Raquette” by watching The Raquette River Experience on-line at https://watch.wpbstv.org/ and now you can view select local productions on your iPhone or iPad when you download the PBS app in the iTunes store. The DVD can be purchased at www.wpbstv.org and is also being made available to wholesale. Also on the website, you can find a listing of August theme programs, area attractions and other educational resources.

The Raquette River Experience is hosted by Don Meissner. Don was the host of Rod & Reel Streamside for 18 seasons and has vast experience hosting his own show. Don Meissner also hosted Park it: Celebrating our Region’s Finest, a 30-minute production celebrating our region’s parks. Don has participated in numerous “live” televised events and many outreach events.

Most recently, Don was named the spokesperson for FISH CAP®, a multi-media campaign to assist in promoting St. Lawrence County as the fishing capital of the region, and possibly the world. Don’s most recent project is The Raquette River Experience, and he is finalizing the filming for one of our biggest productions yet, Fishing Behind the Lines.

Production funding for The Raquette River Experience was provided by Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners, North Country Savings Bank, St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and TJ TOYOTA of Potsdam with additional promotional support from Clarkson University and Potsdam Specialty Papers, Inc.

WPBS-DT is a non-profit public television station serving approximately 650,000 households throughout Northern New York and Eastern Ontario. WPBS-DT’s mission is to educate, entertain and inform in order to enhance the lives of those it serves.
