/skins/pbs/media/FishingBehindTheLines-logo.jpgWatertown, NY – WPBS-DT, Watertown PBS, is proud to announce a new television series in development with the approval of the U.S. Army Department of Public Affairs, Fishing Behind the Lines. The new series will highlight some of Northern New York’s greatest outdoor recreational assets and share stories of soldiers stationed at Fort Drum while fishing area lakes, streams and rivers. Corporate sponsorship of the series is available for local and national markets.

Fishing Behind the Lines will invoke the soldier’s story; their lives serving in the United States Military and its affect on their families, living in the North Country, and their overall life experiences. Each episode will provide insight into a soldier’s day to day life while introducing fishing with the family as a natural way to relieve stress and give a glimpse into one of the area’s most popular outdoor activities.

Don Meissner, host of WPBS-DT’s Streamside and the new face for St. Lawrence County’s FISHCAP program, will host the new series. Meissner is a local and national fishing expert and hosted the pilot program of Fishing Behind the Lines in April of 2010, which captured a fishing event for soldiers held on Oneida Lake.

Production could begin as early as this summer with the premiere slated for the fall of 2012. WPBS-DT will begin the search for corporate sponsorship to cover the cost of the new series.

WPBS-DT is a not-for-profit public television station serving approximately 650,000 households throughout Northern New York and Eastern Ontario. WPBS-DT’s mission is to educate, entertain and inform in order to enhance the lives of those it serves.
