Canadian and North Country Kids in Grades K-3 Encouraged to Submit Original Stories

Watertown, NY, January 4, 2016 – Today, WPBS-DT announced its annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest, designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning. The Contest empowers children in grades K-3 to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.

“WPBS-DT is committed to helping North Country and Canadian children build valuable literacy skills through fun, hands-on opportunities to express their creativity and explore their imagination, said Heather O’Hara, Outreach Manager, WPBS-DT. “Through providing opportunities for North Country and Canadian kids to learn and explore through creative writing, WPBS-DT is making a commitment to its children and their long term success, in school and in life.”

How the Contest Works

Beginning January 1, 2016, children in our broadcast community that include, Canada, Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties, can submit their entries to the WPBS-DT PBS KIDS Writers Contest. WPBS-DT will select local winners and award prizes in the spring of 2016. Additionally, local winners will be featured on wpbstv.org and on pbskids.org/writerscontest. Entries must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2016 and mailed to WPBS-DT, Attn: Heather O’Hara, 1056 Arsenal St., Watertown, NY.
