WPBS-DT and TJ TOYOTA of Potsdam recently held writers workshops at the Norwood and Norfolk libraries to encourage children in the North Country to create their own stories as part of the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest.
The workshops helped children start and finish their own original stories complete with illustrations for entry into the contest which will hold a local awards ceremony at the Public Television station’s studios in May to award first, second and third place prizes in grades K-3.
The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is a local contest designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning.
The contest encourages children in grades K-3 in communities across the country to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original pieces. It extends the powerful tradition and annual success of the 15-year national “Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest.”. Original stories are being accepted though April 12.
Entry forms and rules are at wpbstv.org. The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is sponsored locally by TJ TOYOTA of Potsdam and Jefferson Dental of Watertown.
