WPBS Celebrates Pride Month with Special Programming in June 2023

WATERTOWN, NY; May 30, 2023 – June is Pride month and WPBS is marking the occasion with a varied lineup of programs celebrating the achievements and contributions of LGBTQ communities in Canada and the United States, which include:

JUNE 2nd
American Masters: Little Richard – The King & Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll (8:00 pm) Experience the meteoric rise and enduring legacy of Little Richard. With appearances by Keith Richards, Ringo Starr and more.

JUNE 13th
It’s a Match (8:00 pm) The story of Alana and Lori – two LGBT 20-somethings looking for love online when a casual right swipe made a match that would bind them together forever.

JUNE 20TH
Prideland (9:00 pm) Follow queer actor Dyllon Burnside on a journey across the South to meet diverse members of the LGBTQ community and discover how these Americans are finding ways to live authentically and with Pride in the modern South.

Independent Lens: Mama Bears (10:00 pm) Conservative, Christian beliefs have defined their lives. Now they’re championing their LGBTQ+ children.

JUNE 25th
For the Love of Friends (2:00 pm) A documentary that blends performance rehearsal clips with interview and archival footage to highlight the remarkable life and work of activist Brent Nicholson Earle at the height of the AIDS epidemic.

JUNE 27th
American Experience: Casa Susanna (9:00 pm) In the 1950s and 60s, when failure to wear gender-appropriate clothing was illegal across most of the country, a community of cross-dressing men found refuge at a modest house in the Catskills region of New York. Named after its matriarch, Casa Susanna provided community and validation for its guests.

JUNE 28th
Outspoken: It Runs in the Family (10:00 pm) All raised with a similar Roman Catholic upbringing, three Filipino cousins share their coming out stories, which range from surprising to heartwarming.
