WPBS-DT, Watertown public television, just completed the 33nd season of Whiz Quiz with Glenn Gough and is pleased to announce the 2012 Whiz Quiz Champions.

The 2012 American Whiz Quiz Champions are from Potsdam High School. The Potsdam Team, led by Advisor Catherine Boula, had 6 members this year on the team, each playing during the competition. Each student demonstrated the academic knowledge necessary to win the American Competition. Thirty-one American high schools competed this year in the single elimination tournament.

WPBS-DT is also pleased to congratulate the 2012 Canadian Whiz Quiz Champions, the team from Lisgar Collegiate Institute from Ottawa, Ontario. Lisgar Collegiate, with their Advisor Ruth Crabtree, defended their 2011 title as Canadian Whiz Quiz Champions. Canadian Whiz Quiz allows WPBS-DT to reach out to the Canadian high schools in our viewing area and to celebrate academic excellence on both sides of the border to better represent our broadcast community.

Potsdam High School and Lisgar Collegiate competed in the 2012 International Whiz Quiz Competition, with Lisgar prevailing.

We would like to thank our sponsors who make Whiz Quiz possible: Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, Jefferson Community College, Community Bank, Watertown Noon Rotary, National Grid, Associated Colleges of St. Lawrence Valley and the SUNY North Country Consortium.

Whiz Quiz is produced locally at WPBS-DT and filming takes place annually in October and November. It airs on WPBS-DT October through December. Matches may also be viewed on our website at www.wpbstv.org for friends and family out of our viewing area.

WPBS-DT is a non-profit public television station serving approximately 650,000 viewers in Northern New York and Eastern Ontario. WPBS-DTs mission is to educate, entertain and inform in order to enhance the lives of those they serve.
