WATCH: Trump given ‘no due process at all,’ impeachment defense lawyer argues

David Schoen, one of former President Donald Trump’s lawyers, said on Tuesday that Democrats denied Trump the right to due process. He argued that Democrats’ “obsession” with impeaching Trump began soon after he took office. Schoen played video clips of Democratic lawmakers calling for Trump to be impeached during his four years in office and recounted the quick timeline of Trump historic second impeachment.

“The House adopted the article of impeachment, completing the fastest impeachment inquiry in history, and according [sic] President Trump no due process at all,” Schoen said. “To say there was a rush to judgment by the House would be a grave understatement.”

The Senate is holding an impeachment trial to examine Trump’s culpability in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by a violent mob of his supporters. Many Republicans have said the trial should not go forward because Trump is no longer in office, an argument that is a key piece of Trump’s defense, but Democrats are arguing to proceed.
