WATCH: The one Simon & Garfunkel lyric that helps lift up author Dani Shapiro

Author Dani Shapiro says a particular lyric — “I don’t know a soul who’s not been battered” — from a live recording of Simon & Garfunkel “lifts me up.”

The recording of the song “American Tune,” which was recorded in Central Park in the 1980s, also includes the crowd responding to the duo’s performance.

“Every time I hear that, I think of the way we’re all going through this,” Shapiro said.

In a year of crisis, here are the songs that some artists have turned to to bring them comfort or joy. Listen to the Spotify playlist here: https://spoti.fi/3r2sNFY
