WATCH: Sen. Feinstein’s opening statement in Jackson Supreme Court confirmation hearings

Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., gave opening remarks March 21 as the Senate Judiciary Committee kicked off its Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

“I believe your perspective as a formal trial judge will serve you well on the court. You’ve been responsible for implementing the precedent set by higher courts and because of that, you understand the need for clarity in legal opinions, for achieving consensus wherever consensus is possible. And that has been your record,” Feinstein said.

Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden in February to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman on the high court.
