WATCH: Russia and Ukraine – 1 year of war

Since Russia’s Feb. 24, 2022, invasion of Ukraine, more than 8 million civilians have been killed and thousands more have been displaced, according to United Nations numbers, who estimate that the toll is likely even higher than what they have tabulated. Despite this year of fighting, the involvement of the international community, and pleas from Ukraine for peace amid Russia’s resolve to continue the campaign, the war rages on a year later.

The PBS NewsHour has been covering this war from the start. Here’s a look back at the key moments of the conflict.
