WATCH: Rep. Bennie Thompson delivers closing statement on Day 6 | Jan. 6 hearings

During his closing statement before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on June 28, chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, has the gratitude of the committee and the country for appearing before the committee.

Thompson turned his attention to the “handful of witnesses” he said who have been outliers in the investigation.

“Your attempt to hide the truth from the American people will fail,” he said. The chairman then noted the committee remains open should any of the witnesses “suddenly remember things you couldn’t previously recall.” In a previous hearing, vice chair of the committee, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said that over 30 witnesses have not appeared before the committee to present possible information about the Jan. 6 attacks.

The hearing was unexpectedly announced a week after the Jan. 6 committee said they were taking a break until the month of July. In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day.
