Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby told reporters Monday that “we are going to be focused on doing what we can to honor that obligation to all” of the Afghan people who assisted American troops during 20 years of war. The comments came in response to a reporter’s emotional question about the state of Afghanistan following the exit of U.S. troops and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fleeing the country as Taliban fighters took control of the country’s capital city on Sunday.
