For a century, people in the U.S. have been getting vaccinated to prevent outbreaks of life-threatening illness, Dr. Payal Patel of the University of Michigan’s Institute for Healthcare Policy & Innovation told the PBS NewsHour’s Nicole Ellis during a conversation on Nov. 12. The coronavirus pandemic is latest iteration of that history, Patel said during the conversation on getting children vaccinated against COVID-19. This conversation comes as more questions are coming up about whether, and where, mandates will exist for the COVID-19 vaccine.
