WATCH: Amb. Yovanovitch says State Department wouldn’t back her for fear of Trump tweets

Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, testified before House lawmakers that the State Department would not issue a statement of support for her in the midst of a smear campaign that included falsehoods against her because they were concerned President Donald Trump might tweet and undermine that support. Yovanovitch made the statement in response to questions from Democratic counsel Daniel Goldman. The House Intelligence Committee heard testimony on Nov. 15 from Yovanovitch, who was forced out of her position after a smear campaign led by Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
