From the “Billy the Kid” production team, a time-lapse video from the point of view of a train on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad streaming across the Western landscape. The Railroad was originally constructed in 1880 as part of the Rio Grande’s San Juan Extension, which served the silver mining district of the San Juan mountains in southwestern Colorado.
“It gives you a real dramatic sense of barreling westward — and westward expansion,” says director John Maggio. “The train was, for me, a metaphor of progress that was inexorable — and Billy the Kid and others were just in the way of this giant iron machine. There’s something about this view on the prow of this great smokey beast that just tells the whole story.”
