The Okeechobee Hurricane of 1928 | The Swamp

In the 1920s, Florida officials built a dike across the southern rim of the 400,000-acre Lake Okeechobee. On September 16, 1928, a hurricane smashed the coast of Florida at West Palm Beach.

THE SWAMP tells the dramatic story of humanity’s attempts to conquer the Florida Everglades, one of nature’s most mysterious and unique ecosystems.

The documentary film premieres Tuesday, January 15 at 9/8c on PBS. Learn more at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/swamp/
