The Arthur Child Heritage Museum, Gananoque, Ontario

The Arthur Child Heritage Museum in Gananoque, Ontario is the centerpiece of the Thousand Islands Village, which celebrates the history and unique lifestyle of the 1000 Islands region. The museum, which opened in 1995, was the result of a bequest from Gananoque resident Arthur Child. The museum houses permanent and changing exhibits that trace the natural and cultural history of the islands, from the glaciers to the mid 1900’s. Four other buildings house traditional shops.

The site on which the Heritage Museum now stands was originally the main station for the Thousand Islands Railway. Passenger service ended in 1962, and the station was destroyed by fire in 1990.
