Students suggest poetry to be a ‘soothing’ form of creative release

The PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs at Fraser High School in Fraser, Michigan asked a group of artist and US Poet Laureate, Natasha Tretheway, their opinions on why poetry is important. Using the influence of their community’s spoken word gatherings, students are discovering that poetry can be an effective way of self expression and a teaching mechanism for relating to their peers.
