One Nation Under God? The political power of Evangelicalism | Past Forward

American Experience presents a virtual conversation on the influence of evangelicalism in American politics. This discussion is inspired by the premiere of American Experience’s new documentary film Billy Graham on May 17, 2021.

The conversation will examine the notion of separation of church and state, the expectation for American presidents to be religious, the rise of Evangelicalism as a strong political force and the intersection of religion and politics in America.

Featured guests include:

Anthea Butler – Associate Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania and author of “White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America.”

Kevin Kruse – Professor of History at Princeton University and author of “One Nation Under God: How Corporate America Invented Christian America.”

The conversation will be moderated by Michelle Boorstein, religion reporter at The Washington Post.
