Manufacturing Month 2020

October is Manufacturing Month and WPBS is working closely with community partners Jefferson- Lewis BOCES, St. Lawrence – Lewis BOCES, CITEC Business Solutions, Jefferson County Economic Development, Lewis County Economic Development, Jefferson-Lewis Workforce Development Board, and the North Country STEM Learning Network at Clarkson University – to encourage  young adults  to explore careers in manufacturing.

Despite the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of job openings across the country exist in the manufacturing sector. Those openings are going unfilled because employers cannot find people with the basic trade or technical skills required by industry.

Although the pandemic prevents us from offering in-person job fairs and events in Manufacturing Month 2020, WPBS and its partners are making available valuable “virtual” multimedia resources aimed to inspire youth to become the creators of tomorrow by entering the manufacturing field.

Among those multimedia resources – we are featuring content exploring  career opportunities  on the Manufacturing page on the GPS For Success* platform- http://mygpsforsuccess.com/manufacturing-2/ . This will include locally produced videos from area manufacturing industries to encourage you to consider a career in North Country Manufacturing.

Manufacturing is a growing and diverse industry with tons of opportunity for you to build and create. Jobs in the manufacturing career cluster involve planning, managing, and performing the processing of materials into intermediate or final products and related professional and technical support activities, such as production planning and control, maintenance process engineering.

Take advantage of this opportunity to discover your future in manufacturing!

GPS For Success is a multi-platform website where students and adults can watch, read and learn about career opportunities, income potential and education/training requirements in 16 career clusters outlined nationally as experiencing a shortage of skilled workers entering the workforce.  GPS For Success was recently awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the New York State Economic Development Council in multi-media marketing.
