LISTEN: The state of student loan forgiveness

The Biden administration is rolling out its student loan forgiveness plan that could help tens of millions of Americans. Legal challenges from Republicans against that forgiveness are working through the courts, and the GOP is crafting campaign rhetoric opposing the forgiveness. The administration says that the freeze on federal loan payments will end at the end in January, restarting payments for the first time since March 2020.

To discuss the latest with all these changes, PBS NewsHour’s White House correspondent Laura Barrón-López hosted a conversation with Danielle Douglas-Gabriel, a national higher education reporter covering the economics of higher education at the Washington Post and Kevin Carey, the vice president for education policy and knowledge management at the think tank, New America.
