In this video extra from the Independent Lens documentary Spies of Mississippi, journalist Jerry Mitchell expands on how he discovered the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission’s secret surveillance files — 2400 pages — which led to the re-opening of the Medgar Evers murder case. He talks to Evers’ widow, who recalls the trial and thanks Mitchell for helping her find peace.
