WATERTOWN, NY (June 28, 2022); With the end of the school year and the arrival of summer, many of us are dreaming of the open road and the chance to travel again to destinations that we might not have been able to visit during the past two years. But the rising prices of gasoline, flights, hotels and out-of-home meals will likely cause most of us to “staycation” closer to home. So, great news – WPBS is ready to be your tour guide on some awesome adventures. In addition to our weeknight staple Rick Steves: Europe (7:00 pm, Monday through Friday), we’ve added five new travel and adventure series to the WPBS July schedule:
Weekends with Yankee – Season 6 (Thursdays at 7:30 pm, starting June 30th )
Weekends with Yankee is a travel and lifestyle series hosted by world-class explorer Richard Wiese and Yankee Magazine’s senior food editor Amy Traverso. With New England ranking among the nation’s top tourist destinations, the magazine-style program takes viewers on an insider’s journey from city to countryside to discover the hidden gems of this fabled region.
America Outdoors with Baratunde Thurston (Tuesdays at 9:00 pm, starting July 5th)
This six-part series is hosted by “New York Times” bestselling author and outdoor enthusiast Baratunde Thurston. The series follows him on an adventure-filled journey to explore the diverse array of regions across the U.S. and how those landscapes shape the way Americans work, play and interact with the outdoors.
The Great Muslim American Road Trip (Tuesdays at 10:00 pm, starting July 5th)
Explore how American Muslims have contributed to science, medicine, spiritualty, art, and culture through a journey on historic Route 66.
Expedition with Steve Backshall – Season 2 (Wednesdays at 10:00 pm, starting July 6th)
Explorer and naturalist Steve Backshall has dedicated his life to exploring some of the most remote locations on earth and venturing into places never before seen by human eyes, but he has only scratched the surface. Season 2 sees Steve venture even deeper into the unknown to shine a light on unexplored corners of the planet.
Real Road Adventures (Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, starting July 13th)
In Real Road Adventures, host Jeff Wilson goes on a European road trip in a “BEV” – a battery-powered electric vehicle – as he focuses on meaningful, entertaining and eco-friendly adventures in Switzerland and Lichtenstein. The program shows just how fun eco-travel can be and models ways to reduce tourism’s carbon footprint.
