Freedom Summer’s Widow, “Freedom Summer” clip 3

Rita Schwerner reads her letter of application to become field staff for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), which expressed her desire to work near her husband, MIckey Schwerner, in Mississippi in 1964. Her husband, along with two other civil rights workers – James Chaney and Andrew Goodman – disappeared in June. Their bodies were finally found beneath an earthen dam in August.
