FDA at Your Dinner Table: The history of food safety

Inspired by the 2020 film “The Poison Squad”, American Experience presents a virtual discussion about the role of government in regulating food safety. The conversation will examine the history of food regulations, how industries are regulated today, what role if any the government should play in ensuring a safe food supply chain, and what consumers can do to protect themselves. The discussion will feature clips from “The Poison Squad”.

Featured guests include:

Deborah Blum, author of “The Poison Squad” (the inspiration for our film), and film participant.

Sarah Lohman, culinary historian, author of “Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine”, and film participant.

The discussion will be moderated by Danielle Bainbridge, professor and host of PBS’ Origin of Everything.
