South America’s Guiana Shield is home to a chain of tabletop mountains known locally as Tepuis. Completely isolated from the surrounding forest, their plateau has a cool climate and frequent rainfall, while the jungle below is tropical and humid. Tepuis are renowned for their endemic species.
