WPBS-TV CELEBRATES YOUNG AUTHORS WITH PBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST AWARD CEREMONY

Watertown, NY – WPBS-TV celebrated the winners of the 2019 PBS KIDS Writers Contest on Saturday, May 11 with an Award Ceremony during the Ready-Set-Fun! Sunny Days Literacy Festival at the Salmon Run Mall. The annual contest is designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active storytelling and empower children in grades K-3 to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.

The ceremony included a screening of each winning author’s self-narrated and illustrated entry as well as a presentation of certificates and prize packs. Videos are available for viewing on YouTube and on-air on WPBS-TV during PBS KIDS programming. The winners are as below.

Kindergarten
1st Place – Emma R. – “The Four Monkeys”

First Grade
1st Place – Madison C. – “The Monkey Who Wanted to Skydive”
2nd Place – Braelynn E. – “Buttercup Saves Her Farm Friends”
3rd Place – Luke B. – “The Pot of Gold”

Second Grade
1st Place – Lennox F. – “The Magic Microwave”
2nd Place – Sarah E. – “Sierra’s Story”
3rd Place – TIE – Donovan E. – “My Favorite Place”
3rd Place – TIE – Grace B. – “Patrick the Blue Leprechaun” 

Third Grade
1st Place – Samantha J. – “The Goaty Day”
2nd Place – Anthony G. – “The Brazilian Green Bean World Tour”
3rd Place – TIE – Adeline W. – “Be Brave Bob”
3rd Place – TIE – Gail C. – “Pulling Out the Calf”
