WPBS-DT’s is pleased to announce Laugh Out Loud – Celebrating Women in Comedy fundraising event Friday, September 26th from 6-9pm. The event will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn, Watertown, NY and will include dinner, cash bar, a screening of MAKERS: Women in Comedy, performances by comedians Dee Watson and Lauren Turczak. WPBS will also recognize women MAKERS in our region.
MAKERS is a six-part series that examines the impact of the women’s movement on six fields once largely closed to women: business, space, Hollywood, comedy, war and politics. In each field, women have pried open, and profoundly reshaped, the central institutions of American life and culture. WPBS will be previewing this series during the comedy event.
Tickets are per $50 per person and will include your choice of Icelandic Haddock, Stuffed Chicken or Pasta Primavera. Two female comedians, Dee Watson and Lauren Turczak will also perform during the evening, in honor of women in the field of comedy.
Dee Watson has been doing stand-up comedy since 2001, she stepped out of her comfort zone and auditioned for the Connecticut Comedy Festival, her audition was her first time ever doing stand-up comedy and she was chosen to participate. Dee’s timing, delivery and her ability to talk about things we can all relate to, make’s her show appealing to a wide audience. In today’s world, you never know what you will hear at a comedy show, Dee will make you laugh and you can bring your mom to the show.
Dee has performed at The Improv and The Comedy Garden@Madison Square Garden in NYC, Chicago Women’s Funny Fest, Syracuse Funny bone and as far away as Florida, between raising kids and abusing her husband, Dee has an interesting look at the most mundane things.
Lauren Turczak is a native New Yorker and shares her home in the Capital District with her husband and 11-year-old daughter. She’s been playing venues from New York City’s Gotham Comedy Club to the Loony Bin in Tulsa! Her unusual family life and unique take on the mundane brings one more fresh voice to comedy.
