Pysanky (PISANKA), also known as Ukrainian Easter Eggs, derives its name from the word pysaty which means to write. Ukrainian women have been decorating pysanky for centuries. In earlier times they were decorated in a very special and ritualistic manner. If the egg was not prepared perfectly, it would lose all of the magical powers it was intended to have. This particular goose egg has a planted flower center design with green, cream and gold tones on an auburn red background. There is a accenting trim design on the outer edge of egg. There is a small crack at the base of the egg, but would not be visible while egg is in display stand.
